前橋市中心市街地のアーケード商店街を拠点に、この街の「アートのある日常」を担ってきた３つのアーティストランスペース〈ya-gins〉〈Maebashi Works〉〈map前橋“市民”ギャラリー〉が連携して企画・開催する若手アーティストの連続個展「sub low」。ya-gins（ヤーギンズ）のプログラムとして上演する本作は、中心商店街の北側・弁天通りを舞台とし、その北端を流れる広瀬川に架けられた比刀根橋の先に見える赤城山をモチーフにした路上演劇です。山の動物が川沿いに里へ下りてくるように〈赤城おろし〉と呼ばれる北風が吹けば、アーケードに覆われた通りはまるで山の野性を街なかに運ぶ風洞のよう。昭和を保存したかのような街並み、アーケードが空を遮り、屋内なのか屋外なのかわからないあわいの往還。子どもの頃から何度も訪れたそこを歩けば、遠い記憶を思い出したのか、夢で見たのか、想像したのか定かでないイメージに翻弄されます。光景旅団の「アルカーデの静かな劇」とは、その幻影のような場所に、俳優の肉体・声・言葉を再配置し、現実と虚構を往来するexercise（鍛錬）であり、風景から演劇を考えるserial experiments（連続実験）です。

The sub low series of consecutive solo exhibitions by emerging artists is the joint project of three artist-run spaces in Maebashi’s arcade shopping streets that have cultivated art in everyday life: ya-gins, Maebashi Works, and map Maebashi “Citizens” Gallery. Presented as part of ya-gins’ program, A Quiet Play of the Arcade is a street-based performance set on Benten-dori in the northern part of the central district, using Mount Akagi, which is visible beyond the Hitone Bridge spanning the Hirose River, as its motif. When a dry northwesterly wind (karakkaze) locally known as “Akagi Oroshi” blows, it descends from the mountains like an animal coming down to the riverside, turning the arcade-covered street into a wind tunnel from which the mountain’s wildness flows into the city. In a streetscape that feels like a relic from Japan’s Showa era (1926-1989)—with an that arcade that blocks the sky and an ambiguity that shifts between indoors and outdoors—a walk here may evoke indefinite images that could be a memory, a dream or something totally imagined for people who have visited the area countless times since childhood. A Quiet Play of the Arcades by the theatrical unit Kokei Ryodan repositions the actor’s body, voice, and words within this phantom-like environment. It is an exercise that moves the actor between reality and fiction, as well as a serial experiment that explores performance from the perspective of landscape.
