Located along Babakkawa-dori Street, “minä perhonen ovi” offers a glimpse into its warmly lit interior through large windows. Inside, tableware, bags, accessories, and other items for everyday life are displayed, drawing attention to the rich textures and details of the textiles.
The store opened in February 2025. Its name, “ovi,” means “door” in Finnish, reflecting the hope that it will become a gateway to new encounters between minä perhonen and Maebashi, as well as the people who visit the city.
An important consideration in opening the store was to establish a place for cultural exchange. Having observed Maebashi’s transformation into a city of art since the opening of SHIROIYA HOTEL, the team behind the store now feels that having a physical presence in the city has made them part of that ongoing process.
The small store carries items for everyday life, including bags suited for exploring the city. Visitors can discover the details of the textiles and the stories behind them while browsing the products. Those walking around Maebashi are invited to stop by and find something they like.
During the Biennale, a workshop will also be held at SHIROIYA HOTEL, where participants can experience the process of textile design. Each finished piece will be presented as a one-of-a-kind handkerchief. Further details are available on the minä perhonen website.

minä perhonen has also provided costumes for Maebashi Biennale 2026. Dancer Kaho Kogure wears one of these costumes while performing within architect Suzuko Yamada’s installation outline bar, creating an interaction between the work and the costume.
minä perhonen will also provide costumes for 《Kaho Kogure  “FIELD BODY — choreographic improvisations”》which is a performance scheduled for Sunday, November 22.
