中央前橋駅すぐの広瀬川沿いにあるカレー専門店「GOURMAND CURRY」。一口食べると野菜と果物の甘みが口の中に溶け込んでくる、優しくて味わいの深い欧風カレー。女性ファンの多いグリーンカレーは、自家製のピクルスと一緒に楽しみたい。こちらの店主・近藤さん、実は漫画の「美味しんぼ」がカレーのルーツだと言う。話のひとつに、記憶喪失の店主が持つ暗号の様なレシピをもとにカレーを作るという話がある。近藤さんは、作中のカレーを再現したいが為にカレー作りに没頭。これがきっかけとなりカレーの世界に惹き込まれていく。数々のお店を食べ歩いては、理想とする味を独学で追求し続け「GOURMANDCURRY」のカレーは誕生した。自らライブイベントの主催をするほどの音楽好きでもあり、店内の音響にもこだわりを感じる。スピーカーは60年代のものを使用し、エンクロージャーのパネル部分は近藤さんの祖父が当時製作したものを使用している。祖父から受け継がれたスピーカーは、ノスタルジーで心地良い音色を店内に届けてくれている。広瀬川のすぐ隣、優雅なひと時とカレーはいかが。

GOURMAND CURRY is a cozy curry restaurant along the Hirose River, just steps from Chuo-Maebashi Station. Its European-style curry is gentle yet full of depth, with the natural sweetness of vegetables and fruit unfolding from the very first bite. The restaurant’s green curry is best enjoyed alongside its house-made pickles. The story behind the restaurant begins with an unexpected source: the manga “Oishinbo.” Owner Yasuhiro Kondo says his fascination with curry started after reading Episode 101, in which a chef suffering from amnesia recreates a curry recipe from what appears to be a coded set of instructions. Determined to recreate the curry featured in the story, Kondo immersed himself in making curry. That experience sparked a lasting passion, leading him to explore the world of curry in earnest. After visiting countless curry restaurants, Kondo continued to pursue his ideal flavor through self-study, eventually creating the recipes that became GOURMAND CURRY. Kondo is also a devoted music enthusiast who even organizes live music events, and his passion extends to the restaurant’s sound system. The speakers date back to the 1960s, while the enclosure panels were handcrafted by his grandfather during that era. Passed down through the family, they fill the space with a warm, nostalgic sound that perfectly complements the relaxed atmosphere. With the Hirose River just outside its doors, GOURMAND CURRY is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy both a leisurely moment and a carefully crafted bowl of curry.
