2025年7月13日、群馬県太田市出身のアーティスト・尾花賢一さんの作品《ばばっかわ男》が〈ばばっかわスクエア〉のファサードに出現しました。高い場所に腰掛けているのは、この地が数万年前に利根川が削ってできた河岸段丘の崖線（がいせん）であることに由来します。また尾花さんは、中世前橋における川と市（いち）の関係など、人と自然と街の原初的な関わりをリサーチしてこのパブリックアートを制作・設置しました。

川の化身のような彫像を、道ゆく人々が「あれはなんだろう？」と見上げています。

On July 13, 2025, the artist Kenichi Obana, a native son of Ota, Gunma Prefecture, installed his work Bababkawa-otoko (Bababkawa Man) on the façade of Bababkawa Square. The height at which the figure sits is related to the cliff line of the river terraces that characterize Maebashi’s topography, the result of thousands of years of erosion by the Tone River. Obana also researched the historical relationship between the river and the marketplace in Maebashi during the medieval period, exploring the fundamental connections between people, nature, and the city. Passersby may now look up at the statue, seemingly an incarnation of the river itself, and ask themselves “what is that?”
