On the opening day of Maebashi Biennale 2026, September 19, an artist talk featuring Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka and Ayaka Wada was held at Theater Zero, Maebashi Cinema House.

The two artists spoke in depth about their respective practices and the works they will present as part of Maebashi Biennale 2026, as well as mental health and the relationship between physical and mental wellbeing and artistic practice. The session also concluded with a Q&A, giving audience members the opportunity to ask the artists their questions directly.

The next artist talk, “Mount Akagi as ‘Asyl,’” will take place on October 3 at 6:00 pm at Maebashi Cinema House, featuring Naoki Ishikawa and Toshiaki Ishikura. This is a great opportunity to hear directly from the artists about their works in the biennale and discover new perspectives on Maebashi Biennale 2026. We look forward to welcoming you.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Kanoko Tamura (Art Translators Collective @art_translators_collective) for providing translation for this event, and to Maebashi Cinema House for their generous support.
